August 04, 2026 (MLN):Federal Minister for
Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja on Monday
reaffirmed the government’s commitment to accelerating Pakistan’s digital
transformation, emphasizing the importance of equipping young people with
advanced technological skills to compete in the global economy

She expressed these views during a meeting with a delegation
of overseas and international students visiting Pakistan under the Ministry of
Planning, Development and Special Initiatives’ flagship “Mitti Ki
Pukaar URAAN Overseas Pakistan Summer Scholars Programme.”

The delegation, comprising students from leading
international universities, held an interactive session with the minister to
discuss the country’s digital agenda and emerging technology landscape

During the meeting, the minister outlined the government’s Digital
Nation vision, stating that efforts are underway to digitize economic and
administrative systems while expanding digital access across the country

She said the government is focused on strengthening digital
infrastructure and creating an enabling environment for innovation and
technology-driven growth

Shaza Fatima highlighted ongoing initiatives to improve
internet connectivity and expand next-generation telecom services, including
the rollout of 4G and future 5G infrastructure

She said these measures are aimed at supporting the
country’s growing digital economy and improving access to modern communication
services

Discussing artificial intelligence and digital innovation,
the minister said the government is investing in digital skills development to
prepare Pakistani youth for emerging global opportunities

She also briefed the delegation on initiatives being
implemented by the Ministry of IT, including e-governance projects, digital
payment systems, IT parks, startup support programmes, and freelancing
initiatives designed to create employment and entrepreneurship opportunities

The meeting also featured an extensive question-and-answer
session, during which the students sought details on information technology
policies, cybersecurity, international payment systems, and opportunities for
greater collaboration between overseas Pakistani professionals and the local
technology sector

The minister responded to the participants’ queries and
shared the government’s plans to further strengthen Pakistan’s digital
ecosystem

The visiting scholars appreciated the government’s digital
transformation agenda and expressed their willingness to promote Pakistan’s
technology potential internationally while contributing to the country’s IT
sector through academic collaboration, research, and innovation
