Flutterwave’s Olugbenga Agboola joins Coinbase’s Brian Armstrong, Jack Dorsey and Stripe CEO on World’s Top 100 Fintech Leaders list
  • Flutterwave CEO Olugbenga Agboola is listed among Fintech Magazine’s Top 100 Fintech Leaders, joining prominent global executives.
  • His recognition comes as Flutterwave expands into banking, open finance, digital assets, and broader financial infrastructure beyond payments.
  • The company’s recent acquisition of Mono and a Nigerian Microfinance Bank licence have strengthened its open banking and financial service offerings.
  • Flutterwave has processed over $50 billion in transaction value, with a valuation now above $3.2 billion, following investment from companies like Ripple and Circle.

The recognition places Agboola alongside executives including Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse, Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire, Block CEO Jack Dorsey, Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong and Stripe co-founder Patrick Collison

According to Glen White, CEO of Fintech Magazine, the leaders on the list are helping reshape the financial services industry through technology and greater financial inclusion

“Their work is transforming the industry, driving financial inclusion and embedding innovation across products, platforms and customer experience,” White said

“As we move deeper into an era defined by AI, real-time payments and digital-first banking, these leaders offer a blueprint for sustainable growth and lasting impact.”

For Flutterwave, meanwhile, the recognition comes as the company broadens its business beyond payment processing

In 2026, the Nigerian fintech secured a Microfinance Bank licence, allowing it to hold deposits directly and giving it greater control over settlement, fund movement and access to customer balances in its largest market

The licence also creates room for the company to expand into business accounts, treasury products, payments and payouts

Flutterwave has also moved further into open finance following its acquisition of Mono, an African open banking platform. The deal strengthens its access to financial data infrastructure and gives the company a larger role in the continent’s emerging open finance ecosystem

At the same time, the payments firm is developing stablecoin-based and multi-currency products aimed at reducing the cost and friction associated with cross-border payments

Taken together, these moves reflect a wider shift among African fintech companies, many of which are seeking to build broader financial ecosystems rather than depend on payments alone

Flutterwave’s expansion is also backed by significant transaction scale. Earlier this year, the company said it had processed more than $50 billion across over one billion transactions

Its valuation also rose above $3.2 billion following strategic investments from Ripple and Circle, according to the company

Both firms are closely tied to the global stablecoin and digital payments industry, an area Flutterwave is increasingly targeting as African businesses seek cheaper and more efficient ways to move money across borders

Still, the company’s next phase will depend less on headline transaction volumes and more on whether it can convert its licences, acquisitions and infrastructure into sustainable financial products across multiple markets

Agboola’s inclusion on the list therefore comes as Flutterwave enters a more competitive phase of its growth, with payments increasingly becoming only one part of a broader financial services strategy

Beyond Flutterwave, Agboola also backs early-stage African startups through Resilience17, a venture studio and investment platform focused on high-growth companies across the continent
