On 5 October, the day after Open Business Day (an open door in hundreds of companies), the Centre for Cybersecurity Belgium (CCB) is calling on organisations and businesses to close their doors. Not to the public, but to cybercriminals. With Closed Business Day, the CCB is drawing extra attention to business cybersecurity

According to Miguel De Bruycker, director-general of the CCB, artificial intelligence (AI) is making previously unthinkable cyberattacks possible. “AI models identify vulnerabilities at breakneck speed and use them to try to gain access to businesses’ systems,” De Bruycker stresses

The CCB is therefore calling on businesses to keep their doors closed to cybercriminals around the clock, with the help of Safeonweb at Work. “Safeonweb at Work provides businesses and organisations, large and small, with guidance on taking the first steps towards a more secure IT infrastructure, as well as putting advanced security measures in place. In just a few steps, an organisation’s online doors can be closed to cybercriminals by tomorrow,” De Bruycker explains.

Experts say keeping a business closed to cybercriminals 24/7 is no easy task. “As well as commitment and setting priorities, it requires significant investment. We shouldn’t sugar-coat it. The good news is that many options for financial support are tailored to your needs. We’d be happy to point you in the right direction,” says Ellen Stassart of the National Cybersecurity Coordination Centre Belgium.

From 1 January to 28 September 2026, the CCB had already received 588 cybercrime reports, compared with 635 for all of 2025. The most common incidents were account breaches (156), IT system breaches (97), ransomware (80), data breaches (47) and CEO fraud (21)
