NEW YORK CITY (WABC) –What kid doesn’t want the latest and greatest when it comes to tech for the new school year? The answer to that might come with a big price tag

Luckily, Nina Pineda and 7 On Your Side have ways to save on these big-ticket items

Whether it’s laptops, tablets, headphones or keyboards, now is the time to invest on discounted tech for your child headed back to school

So, check out these deals. Your bank account will be thanking you. It all starts with sign-up

“Make sure you sign up for any retail program when you’re making a first purchase because they’re going to give you an extra ten, up to 25% off that initial purchase,” money-saving expert Andrea Woroch said

Many companies, like Apple, Lenovo and Dell, will give you a discount for simply creating an account or entering your student email

Next, before you level up, trade in used tech for cash or credit

“That could get you 20% off a new purchase,” Woroch said

Tech giants, including Apple, Samsung, and Microsoft, let you trade in eligible items for a gift card, cash or credit towards your new purchase

Remember to stack your savings on top of your trade in. Lenovo offers $100 off your first purchase with select student discounts and if you buy pre-owned, you could get an extra 10% off on top of that

Many stores also have general back-to-school deals that don’t require jumping through hoops

“You also always want to check the retailer’s price if you’re shopping in store because we know sometimes there’s a web special and the store associate will reduce the price to match their online price,” Woroch said

Shop select Target and HP Tech for up to 40% off, browse Walmart or Costco’s tech deals and bundle items at Best Buy for the most savings

And check out Woot–Amazon’s daily deal website–for bargains and last chance deals

And remember, the latest isn’t always the greatest

“Obviously looking for the certified refurbished will get you up to 60% off. Just make sure you’re buying from reputable retailer, getting the warranty and money back guarantee,” Woroch said

Refurbished sites like Back Market sell pre-loved iPads starting at just $69. Other retailers have special sections for pre-owned. Make sure your used merch comes with a warranty
