NEC announced on the 18th that it will begin selling its business automation AI agent “NEC cotomi Agent” through Microsoft Marketplace starting in August. The system automatically extracts browser operations and system usage history into data, allowing AI to replicate and autonomously execute business procedures—targeting routine tasks such as expense reimbursement and attendance management. The technology was developed in 2025 and has been offered as a service since January 2026, but this initiative will make adoption and integration easier for companies using Microsoft products. NEC will first target the Japanese market, with overseas expansion also under consideration.

NEC (6701.T) announced on the 18th that it will begin selling “NEC cotomi Agent,” an AI agent that automates PC-based business operations, through Microsoft’s “Microsoft Marketplace” service platform starting in August. The rollout will initially target the Japanese market, with overseas expansion also under consideration

The newly launched AI agent leverages “cotomi Act,” an agent technology developed by NEC. It automatically extracts browser operations and system usage history into structured data, and once trained, the AI replicates the work procedures. By autonomously operating systems and browsers to execute tasks, it enables significant reductions in work time. The solution is designed for routine tasks such as expense reimbursement and attendance management.

NEC developed this AI technology in 2025 and has been offering it since January 2026 as part of a combined package with software, consulting, and operations and maintenance services. With availability on Marketplace beginning in August, companies making IT investments on Microsoft infrastructure will be able to adopt and utilize the agent more seamlessly. Integration and unified management with Microsoft products, including Microsoft Azure, will also be possible.

Turning Individual Tacit Knowledge into Organizational Capability

A key challenge in enterprise AI adoption is that AI expertise tends to accumulate with individuals, hindering organization-wide knowledge sharing. Through the deployment of this AI agent, NEC aims to build a mechanism that automatically learns and accumulates business know-how through day-to-day operations. The goal is to extract and leverage tacit knowledge held by individuals and organizations, transforming individual execution capability into organizational capability.

Diversifying Delivery Channels

Going forward, NEC plans to expand its offering and distribution channels through Marketplace in addition to its traditional systems integration model. The company also intends to expand its lineup of proprietary solutions and AI applications, potentially marking a turning point in the sales strategy of its AI business

Companies using Microsoft products will find it easier to embed this AI agent into their existing IT environments, enabling them to begin business automation initiatives without large-scale system modifications. Beyond expanding adoption in the domestic market, a future global rollout is expected to contribute to diversifying NEC’s revenue base in its AI solutions business
