Flutterwave appoints Morounke Olufemi as its new Global CFO

Flutterwave has appointed Morounke Olufemi as its new Global Chief Financial Officer, replacing Mitesh Popat, who is stepping down after two years in the role

Popat joined Flutterwave as CFO in 2024 after previously serving as Citi’s CFO for the Middle East and Africa. In a LinkedIn post, Flutterwave CEO Olugbenga Agboola said Popat helped build a “disciplined financial foundation” for the company and had set it up for long-term profitability

Popat is leaving the day-to-day CFO role to pursue his entrepreneurial interests as co-founder of Next Communications, a company focused on turning telecom infrastructure into digital capabilities for brands. He will remain involved with Flutterwave as a strategic adviser

Morounke, who previously worked closely with Popat as Flutterwave’s CFO for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), will now take over the global finance function. She joined Flutterwave in 2025 after serving as Group CFO at Access Holdings, where she oversaw a group with businesses spanning banking, payments, consumer lending, asset management, and insurance

She has about 24 years of experience across financial services, including roles in payments, investment banking, retail and corporate banking, insurance, and asset management. Her career began at Lehman Brothers Investment Bank Europe

Before joining Flutterwave, Morounke also held finance leadership roles at AXA XL and Old Mutual. She holds an MBA in Finance from Durham University Business School and is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants

The leadership change comes as Flutterwave continues to position itself for growth across its payments business.
