Meta is giving itsAI assistant more autonomy. Thus, signaling a shift from chatbot interactions toward AI that can proactively manage everyday tasks

Meta has introduced new automation capabilities for Meta AI in select markets, allowing its assistant to carry out recurring tasks and deliver personalized updates with minimal user input. The rollout is powered by the company’s latest Muse Spark 1.1 model and represents another step in the race to build AI assistants that function more like digital personal aides than conversational chatbots

The latest update reflects a broader shift in consumer AI, where technology companies are competing to make assistants more useful through automation rather than simply generating responses

With the new features, Meta AI can create daily briefings that summarize calendar events and schedule recurring actions such as weekly meal plans or regular trend updates. The assistant is also designed to better understand a user’s context, reducing the need for repeated prompts when completing routine tasks

The features are initially available through the Meta AI app and the web version of the service in selected markets. Meta says it plans to extend availability to additional regions and eventually integrate the capabilities into WhatsApp

The company also emphasized that users remain in control of their interactions, with private incognito conversations continuing to be available

The announcement aligns with Meta’s long-term vision of building what it describes as “personal superintelligence,” where AI becomes a context-aware assistant that can anticipate user needs instead of reacting only to direct commands

For businesses, the update highlights how competition among major AI companies is increasingly centered on productivity and personalization rather than standalone language models

As AI assistants become capable of managing schedules, surfacing information, and automating recurring workflows, they could become more deeply integrated into both personal and professional routines. That creates new opportunities for software developers, enterprise platforms, and digital service providers building products around AI-driven automation

The planned expansion to WhatsApp is particularly significant for regions such as the Middle East and North Africa, where the messaging platform serves as a primary communication tool for consumers and many small businesses. Bringing task automation directly into WhatsApp could accelerate AI adoption among entrepreneurs, merchants, and professionals already using the platform for customer engagement and daily operations.

Separately, Meta also launched a new app called Seller, offering dedicated tools for merchants using Facebook Marketplace as the company continues expanding its commerce ecosystem

As AI companies increasingly compete on automation rather than chatbot capabilities alone, future updates are likely to focus on deeper integrations across messaging, productivity, and commerce platforms. Meta’s broader rollout will show how quickly these features become part of everyday digital workflows

Meta is rolling out the new features gradually, with WhatsApp integration planned for a later stage. The pace of that expansion, along with user adoption, will indicate whether AI assistants are evolving from conversational tools into everyday productivity platforms
