Meta lets AI agents configure WhatsApp Business through chat
Wednesday, 16 September 2026, 00:02
Meta has simplified WhatsApp Business setup with the help of artificial intelligence agents. Companies can now entrust these agents with parts of the process, including creating an account, connecting a phone number, and managing messages used to communicate with customers
As noted by Techcrunch
Previously, developers had to switch between the developer console, Meta Business Manager, API documentation, and the template editor. Now, much of this work can be completed through a simple text prompt in a chat with an agent
How AI agents set up WhatsApp Business
The new features work through the WhatsApp Business Tools MCP server, built on the Model Context Protocol. It connects agents such as Claude, Cursor, Codex, and ChatGPT to the WhatsApp Business platform
An agent can perform routine operations that previously required manual configuration across several services:
Users only need to describe the desired outcome in the chat. The agent selects the necessary actions and helps complete them without constantly switching between different pages and tools
Tools for templates and troubleshooting
Companies will be able to ask an agent to create a message template based on a description or edit an existing one. It will also help identify errors that may have gone unnoticed when checking payments, terms of use, or business verification status
A separate Meta Social Technologies MCP server can be used to find API endpoints, work with documentation, and diagnose technical errors. It complements the WhatsApp Business tool and simplifies work with other Meta services
As a result, preparing WhatsApp Business shifts from several disconnected tools to a single conversation with an AI agent. Developers can spend less time on routine setup and focus more on customer communications
