Stripe and Advent submit joint $53.4bn bid to acquire PayPal<\/p>\n

Stripe and private equity firm Advent International have submitted a joint offer to acquire PayPal in a deal valued at approximately $53.4 billion with the bid backed by around $50 billion in committed bank financing. Under the proposed terms, Stripe and Advent would each hold an equal stake in the company if the acquisition proceeds<\/p>\n

The offer, submitted earlier this month, was not the first time Stripe had been linked to a potential takeover of the payments company. Reports in February had suggested preliminary interest, though no formal proposal emerged at that stage<\/p>\n

PayPal currently serves around 440 million active accounts and processed approximately $1.8 trillion in payment volume in 2025. Stripe processed $1.9 trillion over the same period and was valued at $159 billion earlier this year<\/p>\n

The bid arrives at a difficult moment for PayPal. Chief executive Enrique Lores took over in March following a profit warning, and the company has since outlined plans to cut at least $1.5 billion in costs and reduce headcount by approximately 20%<\/p>\n
