Starting today, you can\u00a0maintain\u00a0your AWS Certification for an\u00a0additional\u00a0year by completing curated training and hands-on labs on\u00a0AWS Skill Builder<\/a>\u00a0instead of retaking a full certification exam.\u00a0<\/p>\n When your certification is within\u00a090 days\u00a0of\u00a0expiration,\u00a0you\u2019re\u00a0eligible.\u00a0Here\u2019s\u00a0what the experience looks like:\u00a0<\/p>\n For Associate-level certifications,\u00a0you\u2019ll\u00a0need to achieve 500 points, including at least\u00a0one\u00a0practical activity. For Professional-level certifications,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0700 points with at least two\u00a0practical activities. Complete everything at your own pace\u00a0before\u00a0your certification\u00a0expires\u00a0\u2014 no testing center appointment, no single high-stakes\u00a0exam day.\u00a0<\/p>\n The courses and labs are built by the same AWS experts who develop AWS services \u2014 covering topics that reflect how the cloud is evolving right now, not a rehash of what you studied years ago. The\u00a0practical activities\u00a0place you in realistic scenarios where you build, configure, and troubleshoot in\u00a0live\u00a0AWS environments. Time spent\u00a0maintaining\u00a0your certification is time spent getting better at your job.\u00a0<\/p>\n This experience is available today in open Beta for the following certifications:\u00a0<\/p>\n Additional\u00a0certifications are coming later this year, including\u00a0AWS Certified\u00a0Data Engineer \u2013 Associate, AWS Certified\u00a0Security \u2013 Specialty,\u00a0and\u00a0AWS Certified\u00a0Machine Learning Engineer \u2013 Associate.\u00a0<\/p>\n You can still recertify by retaking your certification exam, passing a higher-level exam, or (for Cloud Practitioner) using AWS Cloud Quest. The ability to\u00a0maintain\u00a0your certification through training is an\u00a0additional\u00a0path \u2014 one that emphasizes continuous, applied learning. Both paths result in an active, valid credential.\u00a0<\/p>\n Maintaining\u00a0an\u00a0AWS Certification\u00a0will automatically extend the\u00a0expiration\u00a0date of\u00a0related,\u00a0lower-level\u00a0certifications that\u00a0are\u00a0still active\u00a0to\u00a0match the\u00a0expiration\u00a0date of the\u00a0certification you\u00a0maintained.\u00a0For example, if you\u00a0maintain\u00a0your Solutions Architect \u2013 Professional, your Solutions Architect \u2013 Associate extends with it\u00a0to match the next\u00a0expiration\u00a0date\u00a0(as long as\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0still active\u00a0and\u00a0expiring\u00a0within\u00a01 year).\u00a0<\/p>\n What you need to get started\u00a0<\/p>\n That\u2019s\u00a0it.
