Google<\/a> Search has changed how it handles AMP pages<\/p>\n

As of July 1, clicking an AMP result will take you to the domain\u2019s AMP host page instead of a version served from Google\u2019s AMP cache<\/p>\n

In a\u00a0changelog, Google notes that it removed mentions of the AMP viewer, AMP Cache, and signed exchanges from its AMP documentation<\/p>\n

What<\/a> Changed<\/h2>\n

Clicking an AMP result used to cause Google to serve the page from its AMP Cache, which displayed in the AMP viewer with a\u00a0google.com\u00a0URL. Signed exchanges let the domain\u2019s original URL be displayed instead of the Google-hosted version<\/p>\n

Now, Google is discontinuing the AMP Cache serving path and links to the domain\u2019s AMP host page instead<\/p>\n

Per the\u00a0updated AMP documentation, the AMP URL is visible when people click from Search<\/p>\n

How We Got Here<\/h2>\n

The way Google serves AMP pages has gradually changed over the years, beginning in 2021, when Google\u00a0dropped AMP as a requirement for the Top Stories carousel\u00a0and\u00a0retired the AMP lightning-bolt icon\u00a0from search results<\/p>\n

Google News on mobile\u00a0had already begun bypassing AMP URLs, sending traffic directly to domains<\/p>\n

This update applies the same direct routing to sites within Search<\/p>\n
